The Open University of Tanzania is the first university in the whole of the East Africa region to offer educational programmes through Open and Distance Learning mode. This makes OUT peculiar from conventional residential universities. Through Open and Distance Learning (ODL), OUT allows flexible learning environment leading to protracted periods of course completion.

History

The Open University of Tanzania (OUT) is a fully fledged, autonomous and accredited public University, established by an Act of Parliament Number 17 of 1992. The Act became operational on 1st March, 1993 by publication of Government Notice No. 55 in the Official Gazette.

Education

The Open University of Tanzania offers its certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate courses through the open and distance learning system which includes various means of communication such as face-to-face, broadcasting, telecasting, correspondence, seminars, e-learning as well as a blended mode which is a combination of two or more means of communication. The OUT’s academic programmes are quality-assured and ascentrally regulated by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).

Housing services

The Open University of Tanzania uses the Open and Distance Learning system.During residential sessions (face to face sessions, timed tests, examinations and practical training), the students’ may need accommodation where the University depends on getting accommodation from private and public institution and students’ individually arrange for payments to the financial officer of respective institution.

Medical services

Health is physical, mental and social wellbeing of an individual. Health is therefore an aspect that has to do with the relationship between the body, the mind, and the social patterns of the human being in a given context. Healthy is very much affected by HIV/AIDS resulting in unhealthy to people in different settings.

Sports facilities

The Open University of Tanzania encourages the participation of students in games and sports. Through Tanzania Universities Sports Association (TUSA) for example, students are taking part in attending sports and games competitions 18 organized by various sports bodies such as East Africa University Games (EAUG),OUT sports Bonanza and other creative activities.

Accreditation

Providing affordable quality education through various distance-learning media is the main focus of this university. Established in 1992, the institution became operational a year later. Following re-accreditation in 2006, the current Open University of Tanzania Charter came into effect in 2007.

Bachelor Degree of Human Resource Management.

I really like it because it helps me to reach out my future career. However there some thing can be improved by providing more learning materials better guidance from instructors and more online sessions. Overall, my study experience is good and helpful because it prepare me for my future career.
