About

History

When the doors to the University of West Florida opened in the fall of 1967, it didn’t just mark the beginning of classes. It marked the beginning of a story the UWF story. This timeline details the University’s history over the past five decades, characterized by vision, hope and strategic growth. Where we’ve been is only the beginning our foundation for the future.

Education

At the University of West Florida, we believe in the power of higher education to drive change on campus, in our region, across the state and around the world. Based in Pensacola with additional locations in the region, UWF has awarded more than 100,000 degrees from over 70 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. Our small class sizes ensure personalized, focused attention from some of the nation’s most engaging professors.

Research

Our research opportunities and breakthroughs cannot be found at any other university, whether it’s piecing together the story of America’s first settlement, analyzing cybersecurity’s role in national security or working throughout the Gulf Coast and the Gulf of Mexico to mitigate one of the worst oil spills in our country’s history.

Student services

The Division of Academic Engagement and Student Affairs is dedicated to supporting the personal development and academic success of all UWF students both inside and outside the classroom. The division houses a broad range of programs and services including social involvement experiences, student support services, academic and learning resources and high-impact learning opportunities that promote academic success, personal and professional development and civic engagement.

Housing services

To live here is to splash here. Being an Argo means jumping in with both feet and making waves, and there’s no better way to make that happen than by living on campus, where you’ll be smack dab in the middle of the action.

Library services

Interlibrary Loan provides free access to materials not owned by the UWF libraries, designated lost in our catalog, or not in a format you prefer. Document delivery (Scan & Deliver) provides electronic chapters of UWF-owned print books or scanned articles from our print journal collection.

ICT services

The ITS Help Desk is your point of contact for all information technology issues. The ITS Help Desk provides technical support to UWF students, faculty, and staff on a variety of university technology services.

Medical services

The University of West Florida does not require proof of insurance (with some specific exceptions) nor does Student Health Services bill insurance for services provided, but we highly recommend that students have coverage.
