History
The University of Udine was founded in 1978 as part of the reconstruction plan of Friuli after the earthquake in 1976.
Education
Its aim was to provide the Friulian community with an independent centre for advanced training in cultural and scientific studies.
The University currently has the following degree programmes in: Agriculture, Economics, Engineering, Law, Modern Languages, Communication and Training, Humanities, Medicine and Surgery and Mathematics, Computer Science and Multimedia.

Housing services
Before arrival all international students who are either enrolled at UNIUD university or engaged in a student mobility programme, will have to look for accommodation on their own, according to personal selection criteria and needs.
Library services
The Biblioteca umanistica e della formazione is part of the University library system: it is composed by different sections, among which the most closely connected to DIUM are Santa Lucia, Periodici, Fondi speciali, Cinemantica and Margreth in Udine. Further resources for study and research in the humanistic field are hosted in the Biblioteca Florio and the Polo Santa Chiara in Gorizia.
Sports facilities
The University gym is managed by the University Sports Center (Centro Universitario Sportivo), and organizes lots of activities, from fitness classes to basketball, volleyball, beach-volley, table tennis and of course, football. For the more creative there's the canoe polo team.
