VIA University College was established in 2008 as a result of a number of mergers of institutions of higher education. Today, VIA is one of the country’s six university colleges, covering the Central Denmark Region.
Our programmes build on strong Danish traditions for educating students in cooperation with professional practice. Some programmes, like teaching, nursing and social education go back more than 100 years. They still play an important role in developing the world known Danish welfare society and creating growth and innovation in private industries.
As the world becomes more global, VIA increasingly takes an international approach to education and research. Today, almost half of our programmes are taught in English and we offer international double degrees, student and staff exchange, summer schools and research projects.
In 2013, the Danish university colleges gained official status as research institutions. We follow the same scientific standards as traditional universities but focus on applied research.
Our goal is that by 2020, 30 percent of our employees will hold a PhD. Already, most students gain experience with research, innovation and development during their studies.
We take particular pride in our close collaboration with professional practice. As a result, the knowledge we produce helps solve real challenges for public and private organisations – in Denmark and internationally.
Career Service Centre offers free career advice for students at all semesters. From your first day on campus, our consultants can advise you on:
You can book a time for career counselling with us on Campus Aarhus C, Herning and Horsens.
There are multiple accommodation options in VIA’s campus cities – dormitories, private apartments, house sharing – depending on preference and the length of your stay. Dormitories and house sharing offer great opportunities for socialising and meeting new friends and are more affordable. On the other hand, you own apartment will provide privacy and freedom. In Denmark, on-campus student accommodation provided by universities and colleges is not available, as is the case in many other countries. This means that students are responsible for finding housing on their own.
In addition to VIA’s campus libraries, the Danish public libraries are worth a visit. Lending of books, journals, films, music and computer games is free and often libraries also host many free events such as film screenings, theatre performances etc.
Overall, the Danish healthcare system is tax-funded, of high quality, and all residents are entitled to free or subsidised healthcare services, including international students.
The system is characterised by its emphasis on preventive care, patient-centred care, and collaboration between healthcare providers.
VIA has a total of eight campuses across the Central region of Denmark.
In general, Denmark is home to a range of associations and clubs. By joining a local dance club, football team or board game association, you find an easy way to meet the Danes while enjoying your favorite free-time activity.
All our campuses are home to a range of student associations from cafés to sport clubs and music clubs. Students can join and also start their own association with guidance from VIA.
The local student union arranges many different activities on campus such as afternoon workshops and student parties.
All programmes are accredited by the Danish Accreditation Council. VIA is a certified holder of an ERASMUS+ charter.
Below you will find scholarships for VIA University College. Distinction can be made between scholarships provided by the University and those provided by independent providers.
