The first modern center of medical training in Iran was founded in 1851. It was a part of the Institute of Higher Education (Dar-ol-Fonoon). The School of Medicine was established as a part of University of Tehran in 1934. After the Islamic Revolution, medical schools and departments associated with medical fields were separated from the Ministry of Higher Education.
All dormitory buildings are supplied with a free transportation system. A fleet of buses transport students to and from dormitories to all faculty buildings on the campus.
Tehran University of Medical Sciences is located on a campus in the middle of Tehran. Dormitories are available close to the campus with free transportation system.
Libraries are available in the dormitory, as well as the main campus and faculties.
Each room is supplied with a phone line and internet access. Library, study and computer rooms in each dormitory building facilitate study and research activities.
A clinic provides students with emergency, ambulance and general dentistry services free of charge 24h a day. Congregational prayers are held at dormitory mosques on a regular basis. Counselors based at the dormitories provide students with advice in various areas such as education, marriage, cultural activities, etc.
As a student of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, you will get experience of a busy and memorable life on campus. Apart from your classes based on weekly schedules, you have aplenty of activities to pursue on campus. First of all, at TUMS, academic work and tasks are not limited to classrooms, libraries and laboratories. Each week, different schools host various conferences and gatherings that concern on different topics and in different fields. You can look for such activities and partake. For some events, you may be asked to act, or be given the choice to volunteer, as a member of an event’s organizing committee.
You may also opt to participate in sports. TUMS has numerous sports teams for both girls and boys in different fields, as well as the necessary resources and equipment to train and support its athletes. If you are skilled in a particular sport and would like to pursue your interest as a member of a team, you can compete for a place in one of the university’s teams. Be aware though: The competition is fierce!
Different student associations are active in the university. They are categorized into research associations, art associations, medical education associations, music associations and others.
Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) is accredited with premier status by the Accreditation Service for International Colleges (ASIC). ASIC is recognized by the United Kingdom Department for Education and Skills (DfES), the United Kingdom Department for Universities, Innovation, and Skills (DUIS), the United Kingdom Border and Immigration Agency (Home Office), the United Kingdom Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted). ASIC is a member of Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) International Quality Group (CIQG).
