History
The emergence of CU in 1908 was a dream that renowned Egyptian thinkers and philosophers had for a long time. For some time, social thinkers called for the establishment of an Egyptian University that would become a beacon for liberal thought and would lay groundwork for a comprehensive academic revival in all fields of knowledge.
Research
The Public Opinion Research Center was founded in 1982 as a special scientific and consultative research and training unit to be affiliated with the Faculty of Mass Communications at Cairo University. The center is a technically, financially and administratively independent entity and was established in the context of the Cairo Universitys taking direction into reviving research into the public opinion, taking an interest in the peoples issues, and organizing research efforts to be integrated and harmonious with one another in order to create a tightly-knit atmosphere that will help increase the scientific output of researchers and Cairo University as a whole.

Library services
The first central library was officially opened in 1932 inside Cairo University campus. Since then, it has continuously served undergraduate and postgraduate students for more than 75 years. The New Central Library was partially opened in 2008, as part of the University —Centennial Celebration.

Cairo University's hospitals are the oldest educational and medical hospitals and the largest in Egypt and the Middle East. It is the citadel of medicine in the Arab region. Cairo University aims at developing students' characters, enriching their characters, and enlightening them with the nature of society and the role of culture in the process of development whether motherland-development, self-development, abilities-development, as well as spreading cultural, literary, and artistic awareness.

The Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University was granted accreditation by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE) according to the decision of the Authority Board dated March, 2016.
