This university was established in 1387 H / 1967 G as a national university aiming at spreading higher education in the western area of Saudi Arabia. This dream has come true through the continuous efforts of the loyal citizens of this country.
The university witnessed much development in quality and quantity since it was established until it becomes one of the distinguished universities in terms of the number of students, the number of scientific and theoretical fields of study and the exclusiveness of certain specializations such as Seas Sciences, Geology, Nuclear Engineering, Medical Engineering , Meteorology and Aviation and Mineralization.
Scientific progress for any nation is measured by its ability to keep up with scientific development about the human, the universe and the life. In addition to conducting the necessary research to guarantee its continuity and progress. The scientific level of any nation is exemplified by its reservoir of scientific research for that community in a certain time, and the ability of that nation to use that reservoir in comprehensive development processes that is reflected on life. In other words, there is no progress without scientific research.
On 4/7/1387 AH, the central library was officially opened in the first building of the College of Economics and Administration, and its area was 50 square meters, where it contained 10228 volumes, of which about 5,000 thousand volumes, which some of the dignitaries in the city of Jeddah offered to the university.
King Abdulaziz University has two separate campuses; one for male students and another for female students, as required by the Islamic teachings. Interestingly, each campus is equipped with all state-of-the-art academic, sports, and leisure facilities as well as a huge library provided with the latest modern technologies to serve students and faculty members.
