History
The sources of Lithuanian Sports University are traced to the historical date, October 10, 1934, when by the decree of President of Lithuania Antanas Smetona the Higher Courses of Physical Education were set up offering a higher education degree.
Education
With its mission to contribute to the sustainable development of society through international-level research and academic excellence, LSU is known as a leading academic and research centre in sports science in the Baltic Sea region.
The LSU offers 18 degree study programmes at all three study cycles (6 undergraduate, 10 Master’s and 2 PhD), mainly in sport science, where studies, research and practice are closely interconnected. Among the LSU graduates, there are many distinguished scientists, world-renowned coaches, famous athletes, and prominent public figures.
Research
The Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) conducts various sports science and research projects aimed at developing knowledge and innovations in sports, physiology, physical education and other related fields. LSU's research covers both theoretical and practical aspects related to sports activities, physical culture, physiology, nutrition, rehabilitation. Student services
The International Relations Office (IRO) offers support with the aim to create opportunities for local students to get a taste of Europe and for international students to experience the student life in Lithuania.
Housing services
Rooms are furnished with beds, wardrobe, desk and desk chairs. The student does not need to bring the bedding and bed linen, as he/she will get it in the dormitory, but the dormitory administration does not provide towels. The student also has to buy the kitchenware (flatware, cups, plates, etc.) upon arrival. The kitchen (bathroom as well) will be shared with other students. The rooms are supplied with internet connection, but not computers, thus, the student has to bring his/her own computer or rent it upon arrival.
Library services
The LSU library with over 90 thousand publications offers a lounge area for visitors, reading rooms for group work and individual study with nearly 100 workplaces, and favorable conditions for students’ self-study in general.
Campus life
Kaunas, the second largest Lithuania‘s city, which keeps the authentic spirit of the country‘s national character alive. The city is located at the confluence of the two largest Lithuanian rivers, surrounded by the hills and situated at the crossroads of the most important roads in Lithuania. Due to its geographical position, today, Kaunas is Lithuania‘s most important center of communication.Culture is inescapable in Kaunas as well. While the titular year of Kaunas European Capital of Culture 2022 is over, Kaunas remains full of culture, opportunities, and adventures.
Sports facilities
The aim of the Sports and Leisure Centre is to promote the unified development of sport at the same time ensuring the prestige of the University, health-related student physical activity and students’ self-expression. LSU Sports and Leisure Centre coordinates sports and wellness activities at the University.
