History
- The Maryland General Assembly chartered the College of Medicine in 1807; it is now the nation’s oldest public medical school.
- In 1812, the Maryland General Assembly rechartered the College of Medicine as the University of Maryland and expanded its mission.
- To promote and enhance research, scholarship, and advanced study, the Graduate School opened in 1918.

Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report presents all the top universities from the U.S. and 60 other countries around the world. They measure the rate of students going to their second year of studies, as well as the rate of students who graduate. It also asks university representatives on the performance of universities, and evaluates university resources, teacher salaries, graduation rates, student academic achievements and satisfaction. After calculating and comparing these criteria, U.S. News ranks the top international universities accordingly.
Student services
The USGA is a campuswide student government that represents all UMB students on campus. It consists of Student Senators who are elected each year to represent the seven professional and graduate schools at monthly senate meetings (usually the second Wednesday of each month). The USGA Senate meetings are centered around issues and events that involve all UMB schools and their respective students.
Housing services
Fayette Square is the perfect building if you're a UMB grad student who's looking for a safe and secure place to live that is in close proximity to the UMB campus. Filled with tons of study spaces for those late nights, as well as washer/dryers, fully furnished apartments, elevators, and even a gym.

The Center for Information Technology Services (CITS) is the central information technology organization for UMB. UMB was first accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in 1921. The most recent on-site evaluation was April 2016. At its session on June 23, 2016 the Middle States Commission on Higher Education acted to reaffirm accreditation and to commend UMB for the quality of the self-study process and report. The next mid-point peer review is scheduled for 2021. The next self-study evaluation is scheduled for 2024-2025.
