Established in 1948, Toronto Metropolitan University has a history rooted in innovative, career-driven education with the goal of addressing contemporary societal needs. Originally named after Ontario’s first Superintendent of Education and leading public school advocate, Egerton Ryerson, TMU is a postsecondary institute designed to combine technical education with academic theory.


We believe that education and experience go hand-in-hand. What our students learn in the classroom is enhanced by real-world knowledge through internships and co-ops, or amplified through zone learning, specialized minors and graduate programs.

Student services

The International Student Advisors are Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIAs) or Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs) who can help through group immigration advising, drop-in hours and one-on-one appointments.

Housing services

Along with the students that you will meet and learn from the school year, there are dedicated people within Housing and Residence Life who are here to support your transition to living independently. 

Living in residence makes life easier. You are right next to your classes, close to public transit, and all other amenities you will need.

Residence is an inclusive community. All-gender housing means that you only need to disclose your gender should you wish to be matched with a roommate or suitemate of the same gender identity as yours.

Sports facilities

TMU Athletics and Recreation champions a spirit of belonging, pride and excellence, which enriches the academic experience and develops the whole student.

In our two fitness facilities, the Recreation & Athletics Centre (RAC) and the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC), as well as through initiatives across campus, we strive to provide safe and inclusive spaces for you to move in a diversity of ways.

Student clubs

Toronto Metropolitan University has a vibrant campus community made up of over 200 student clubs and organizations. Most of these groups allow for the opportunity to be involved however you would like, from being a general member who attends events when possible to running for an executive position.
