History
From the state’s first medical college in 1880 to a dental college (1903), pharmacy college (1908), nursing college (1917), allied health training programs (early 1930s) and the Graduate College (1942), UNMC not only expanded to meet the needs of future health professionals but also consolidated several of its colleges into an Omaha campus destined to sustain its growth.

Housing services
It is important that students who are making plans to attend the University and who are not Nebraska residents are familiar with the effect residency policies may have on their financial preparation for attending the University.
Library services
The library is open to UNMC students, faculty, and staff and Nebraska Medicine staff. A UNMC or Nebraska Medicine ID badge is required for building and library access.
ICT services
UNMC Information Technology Services is home to 120 employees who support a technology environment an expanding research environment, robust educational technologies and a rapidly expanding physical campus.
Medical services
The goals of Student Health:
- Healthcare workers are at risk for exposure to many serious diseases while working directly with patients or handling material that could spread infection.
- UNMC Student Health will make available immunizations and annual screenings for Tuberculosis and flu vaccinations necessary to assist students in staying compliant with UNMC immunization requirements.
Campus life
Each of our campus sites is its own community, connected to a greater community. Located in a handful of Nebraska’s landmark hometowns, UNMC’s divisions across the state are bonded through a shared culture .
- Omaha: Our ever-growing flagship campus is in the heart of our state’s biggest city.
- Lincoln: Dentistry and nursing students share a city and a campus with spirited undergrads.
- Kearney: This central Nebraska mecca boasts a world-class facility which serves as home to divisions for nursing and allied health professions.
- Norfolk: Northeast Nebraska’s hub hosts nursing’s Northern Division in a beautiful facility.
- Scottsbluff-Gering: Nursing and dentistry divisions reside in these Panhandle twin cities.
Sports facilities
Memberships, intramural sports & special events and fitness classes are available to all UNMC & Nebraska Medicine faculty, staff, students, retirees, alumni, volunteers, contracted employees & affiliated organizations. The facility includes: multi-purpose gymnasium, men’s & women’s locker rooms, health & fitness classrooms, massage room and the Thomas M. Heiser Strength & Fitness Facility.
