History

The passage of a bill in early 1909 by the Thirty-first Texas Legislature authorizing the establishment of a State normal school for the education of  teachers located somewhere "west of the ninety-eighth meridian" set off a spirited bidding war as some 25 west Texas cities and towns competed to secure the educational institution.

Housing services

WTAMU is a member of the Texas A&M University system and has an enrollment of about 8,000 students. The 176 acre campus has 44 buildings and includes a pedestrian mall with marble sculptures and sports complex. Students find the atmosphere at WTAMU to be friendly with a supportive faculty and staff and a multitude of activities to explore. 

Campus life

The campus of West Texas A&M University lies in the northeast corner of the town of Canyon, Texas, approximately fifteen miles south of Amarillo. Here, you’ll discover a vibrant community complete with hospitable people, historic homes and a variety of options for shopping and dining.

Despite the vast, open plains that cover the region, trees and foliage are in abundance here at WTAMU. Many students and community members find the 176-acre campus the perfect place to take a stroll, have a leisurely picnic or walk the family dog. The Charles K. and Barbara Kerr Vaughan Pedestrian Mall has many scenic features, including the "Original Texans" marble sculpture and fountain and the Hayward Spirit Tower.

Awesome Experience

I went to college and absolutely loved my accounting class. The teach was very detail but also took her time to make sure we all understood every step. She also offered extra tutoring weekly if we needed help outside the classroom.

Good in ChemEng courses, but lacks Admon courses

The basics and advanced topics in the chemical engineering field are good ones, nut the program lacks more administrative courses.
