As a public university, the task of EAMT is to provide services for society in its areas of activity based on educational, research and creative activity and to prepare university students for being responsible citizens who are capable of taking the initiative in life.

History

The idea of founding an Estonian establishment of musical education emerged on the eve of World War I. It began in the form of a mixed choir of the Estonian Society Musical Department (EMD). The assembly of the Estonia Society then decided on November 17, 1918, to create the Tallinn Higher Music School, the opening ceremony of which took place on September 28, 1919, in the Estonia Concert Hall.

Education

The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre is an educational, cultural and scientific research establishment which provides the option of studying in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programme in the study field of arts, as well as the field of teacher training and educational sciences.

Research

The EAMT actively develops international cooperation and is open to new and interdisciplinary curricula, creative ideas and research projects.

Career

Each student has the right to academic and career counselling at EAMT. The main aspects of the academic life and career development are covered within the first weeks of studies in the subject “Introduction to University Studies and Professional Life”. Among other topics, the students are introduced to how to get practical advice relating to various academic and professional matters throughout their studies.

The Career advisor can help the students with decisions related to career planning as well as providing assistance in finding professional engagements, preparing for job interviews etc.

Time to bloom

I have studied Western Music Theory, history and Vocals mainly in my degree programme. I have gained higher marks in Western Vocals throughout my Degree. And also have studied Piano, Drums, Harmony and Analysis, Teaching Methodology and Choir as secondary subjects. I have been a member of the University Choir and was able to perform many occasions in and outside of the University.
