Founded in 1891 as a Historically Black University.
Education
West Virginia State University, a public university located in the capital city of Charleston, West Virginia, offers 23 baccalaureate degrees and 5 graduate degrees in public administration, media studies, biotechnology, and criminal justice.
WVSU offers a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, a unique interdisciplinary degree program that consists of five concentration areas: Africana Studies, Communication, International Business, International Relations, and Foreign Language.

Student services
An International Student Center has become the central focal point for international student community activities, providing an orientation for new international students, a place for the International Student Association to meet and social/cultural activities offered throughout the year.

Library services
The Drain-Jordan Library houses nearly 150,000 book volumes, e-books, e-journals, government documents and a wealth of non-print and archival resources. The main floor is home to over 70 computers for public use, including laptops available for checkout within the building. Friendly, highly-trained staff are available to help you with all your information needs.
Campus life
The Charleston Yeager Airport is less than a 20 minute drive from the WVSU campus and provides non-stop flights to Washington, D.C.; Chicago, Illinois; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Atlanta, Georgia; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
