History
- Mount Allison traces its roots to 1839 when Sackville merchant Charles Frederick Allison proposed the creation of a school of elementary and higher learning.
- The Mount Allison Academy, a school for boys, opened in 1843, followed by the Ladies College in 1854.
Education
- Our University has five undergraduate degrees - Art, Commerce, Fine Arts, Music and Science - and five master degrees.
- It offers more than 40 different programs to choose from to create your unique degree.
- We like to call it the small class difference — you'll be able to connect with your professors both inside and outside the classroom. These meaningful interactions will guide you throughout your degree and help you figure out your future.
- Our professors bring their research into the classroom, which helps connect you to what is happening right now in the world. You have the opportunity to work directly with them on their research or even co-publish articles before you graduate.
Research
- The Office of Research Services supports a vibrant research culture at Mount Allison University.
In collaboration with the provost and vice-president academic and research and the academic deans, it provides services such as:
- assisting with the preparation of individual and institutional submissions for funding to provincial and federal departments or agencies
- assisting students with the preparation of applications for graduate scholarship funding from SSHRC, NSERC, and CIHR
- supporting the work of the research ethics board and the animal care committee
- supporting the work of the research and creative activities committee
- supporting activities related to technology transfer and commercialization of research
Career
- We often say the liberal arts and sciences education students pursue at Mount A helps prepare them for any career, not just a career. This isn't just a good line — it's true. In our rapidly changing world, students who can think critically, problem-solve, and bring a broad perspective to their work are extremely valued.
- Mount Allison also has resources in place to help students achieve their career and life goals.
- Career services aims to equip students with the skills they need to find employment and helps employers find them by connecting them with student internship and employment opportunities.
