About

History

Western New England University was founded in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1919. Begun as the Springfield Division of Northeastern College, known as Springfield-Northeastern, the University was originally established to offer part-time educational opportunities for adult students in law, business, and accounting.

Education

Western New England University, a comprehensive private institution with a tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship and a commitment to service, awards undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in various departments from among our Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and School of Law.

Research

The hallmark of the Western New England University experience is an unwavering focus on and attention to each student’s academic and personal development, including learning outside the classroom. Faculty, dedicated to excellence in teaching and research, and often nationally recognized in their fields, teach in an environment of warmth and personal concern where small classes predominate.

Campus life

Yes, it's true, we were named among the 30 most beautiful campuses to visit in the fall (we ranked #11 nationwide!), but we offer both beauty and brains. Step inside the spectacular $40 million Center for the Sciences and Pharmacy and all you will say is "Wow!" Housing labs and classrooms for our growing science programs and the College of Pharmacy, including a simulated pharmacy, the Center will give you exciting opportunities to be a part of our cutting-edge research.

Sports facilities

Be a player or root for your fellow classmates at the 4,500-seat Golden Bear Stadium, home to several of our 19 Division III men’s and women’s teams. Or enjoy competition on the other fields of our outstanding outdoor sports complex facilities. The hub of athletics and fitness on campus is the Alumni Healthful Living Center, featuring our field house for indoor sports, along with pool, track, fitness center, and much more.

Student clubs

The University offers more than 70 student clubs and organizations that make it easy to jump in and explore students' interests—old or new.
