Student services

Through various programs and services, it is our mission to provide a variety of co-curricular experiences designed to enrich the social, cultural, educational and personal development of EIU students; promote student leadership, civic responsibility and respect for diversity; empower and encourage EIU students to reach their full potential in a student-centered, supportive environment.

The Student Life Office takes administrative responsibility for student government, campus entertainment (University Board), multicultural programming, leadership support services and more than 200 registered student organizations.

Housing services

Most international students choose to stay in either Lincoln-Stevenson-Douglas Halls, Thomas Hall, University Court or University Apartments since these are the only housing facilities open during break periods. There is an $85.00 per week charge for students choosing to stay over breaks in Lincoln, Stevenson, Douglas or Thomas Halls halls. If you do not need housing during break periods, you are welcome to live in any of the other residence halls. There is no additional charge for students who live in University Court or University Apartments during break periods.

Library services

A comprehensive program of Library Services is offered to students, faculty and citizens of Illinois. Visit our website for the most current status of services and collections and a wealth of electronic publications. Booth Library, the general library of the University, is named in honor of Miss Mary Josephine Booth, who served as Head Librarian at Eastern from 1904 to 1945.

Medical services

Eastern Illinois University requires that all students who enroll in 9 or more on-campus hours, all Graduate Assistants under contract to the University, and all International students enrolled in 3 or more on-campus hours, be covered by health insurance and provide a supplemental plan of medical coverage for injury and illness

Campus life

The mission of Campus Recreation is to provide EIU students, faculty and staff with informal and formal recreational activities regardless of ability. We wish to promote a safe and enjoyable environment, encourage participation, and promote healthy lifestyles. Campus Recreation serves primarily EIU students because our facilities and programs are supported through required student fees.

Sports facilities

Eastern Illinois is home to 20 NCAA Division I sports.  Facilities are housed on the west side of the EIU campus between 4th Street and Grant Avenue.  EIU competes as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference in 17 sports.  Men's soccer, men's and women's swimming compete as members of the Summit League.

EIU Review

I think its a nice place to be at. The environment is very safe and welcoming. People are nice but there isnt much to do her as it is located in a small remote city at Illinois. Many opportunities to get involved and make new friends.
