The Hochschule für Jüdische Studien (HfJS), Heidelberg was founded in 1979. It is supported by the Central Consistory of the Jews in Germany (Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland), financed through the local and federal government and is a fully recognized and accredited institution of higher learning.
The HfJS offers a variety of courses of study. The course listings range from Biblical Studies, Rabbinics, Jewish Art history, and Jewish Philosophy to programs in community work and rabbinic training.

The library contains one of the biggest collections of Judaica material in Germany and includes works from all disciplines within Jewish Studies from 16 th to the 21 st centuries. The library serves not only the needs of students and academic staff of the HfJS and the University of Heidelberg but is also open to interested members of the public as a reference library.
