History

  • 1955: First campus opens in New York City. 
  • 1959: NYIT awards first degrees; “teaching machines” introduced in physics, electronics and mathematics.
  • 1960: NYS Board of Regents grants provisional charter to operate as a four-year college.
  • 1972: NYIT introduces first graduate-level program: Master’s in Business Administration.

Student services

The purpose of the Student Government Association shall be to respond to and resolve, to the best of its ability, those issues or concerns that are expressed by members of the currently enrolled undergraduate student body. The Student Government Association, through its elected representatives, shall be the NYIT student organization recognized by administration as having the responsibility to act on all matters that promote the general welfare of the student body. 

Housing services

  • An extra long twin size bed, dresser, desk and chair is provided for each student.
  • Students may rent a micro-fridge or purchase a small refrigerator/microwave on their own, to keep in their rooms.
  • Air conditioning and heating are provided in each room according to university calendar.
