About

History

The school opened its doors on the corner of 20th street and Third Avenue as the New York Homeopathic Medical College. Bryant served as the medical school’s first president and held the office of president of the Board of Trustees for 10 years.

Education

At New York Medical College, our students learn in classrooms, labs and at patient bedsides. As a result of our focus on strong academics, scientific research and practical experience, New York Medical College students often get their first-choice matches and are well-prepared for the careers they seek.

Many members of our faculty – including Chancellor Halperin and Dean Amler– are practicing physicians who bring extensive professional experience to their teaching and mentorship roles. In addition, our network of clinical affiliate hospitals are some of the finest in the region, providing exceptional clinical training.

Research

New York Medical College is the leading academic biomedical research center between New York City and the New York state capital of Albany. The College manages research and other sponsored programs, notably in the areas of cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, kidney disease, the neurosciences, disaster medicine, and vaccine development.

Career

NYMC’s location in Westchester County provides a large and highly diverse catchment area with numerous career, residency, clinical, practicum and internship opportunities. For School of Medicine students, our local affiliate hospitals are some of the finest in the tri-state area, offering exceptional clinical training and experience with diverse populations.

Student Life

Campus life

NYMC is located on a 565-acre suburban campus shared with Westchester Medical Center, 15 miles outside of the New York City limits.

Sports facilities

NYMC students are encouraged to be collaborative, not competitive, with each other academically, but when it comes to intramural sports, the heat is on! Team pride is fueled by a desire to have fun, relieve stress and prove one’s mettle in exciting and enjoyable athletic activities. Our Flag Football League attracts about 150 students – both men and women – and features regular season and playoff games, a Super Bowl, and the annual PowderPuff Game, in which first-year women challenge second-year women, with men providing the halftime entertainment. The Basketball League typically fields up to 10 teams. Games are held both indoors and outdoors, and the season concludes with a playoff and an all-star game.

Student clubs

  • Career Interest: approximately two dozen clubs for students interested in specialty areas such as anesthesiology, cardiology, emergency medicine, ethics, family medicine, infectious disease, oncology, pediatrics, neurology and radiology.
  • Community Service: a variety of opportunities to be involved in the local community by volunteering at hospitals, shelters and clinics; delivering tobacco-awareness programs in local middle and high schools; and staffing the annual Community Health Fair.
  • Social and Recreational: nearly two dozen recreational, fitness and other clubs, including the Art Club, the Arrhythmias a cappella group, Camping Club, Climbing Club, Cycling Club, Flag Football, Intramural Basketball League,.
