Student services

The main task of the Office for Admissions and Registration is the admission of students who wish to begin their studies at the University of Fribourg and we will willingly reply to any question related to admission. The office is also responsible for the general administration of students.

Housing services

Looking for somewhere to live close to the campus at a reasonable price? In Fribourg, unlike in many other Swiss cities, this is still possible. There are several student hostels which offer inexpensive rooms.

Student Hostels
  • Bel-Praz (for men)
  • Cité St-JustinFoyer
  • Beau-SéjourSalesianum
  • Foyer Bel-Abri (for women)
  • Les CordeliersFoyer
  • Le Tilleul (for women)

Library services

There are libraries at various University sites. For your literature searches you will be using the ‘BCU-Centrale’ (the Canton and University Library) and the libraries of the various faculties.

Medical services

According to the Federal Act of 18 March 1994 on health insurance (LAMal), all persons domiciled in Switzerland must be insured for care in case of sickness or insured by their legal representative. Respect for the obligation to insure lies with the cantons. If you are a trainee from abroad and your place of residence is in the city of Freiburg, you must submit your insurance cover documentation.

Campus life

The Adolphe Merkle Institute is part of the University of Fribourg campus in the Pérolles neighbourhood.

You won’t find a campus in Fribourg: the town itself is the campus! With 10,000 students among a total of 40,000 inhabitants, life in the town is shaped by the University like nowhere else. This unique combination of medieval heritage and vibrant student life lends it an incomparable charm.

Sports facilities

If you feel like unwinding or just want to clear your head after lectures, the University of Fribourg offers a range of rich cultural and sporting opportunities.

I am satisfied with my studies.

Overall, my study experience was positive and satisfying. I really liked the clear lessons, supportive learning environment, and the way the subjects were explained, which made learning easier and more interesting. The activities and assignments helped me improve my knowledge and skills. One area that can be improved is having more practical examples and interactive sessions. In summary, my overall study experience was valuable, enjoyable, and helpful for my academic growth.

My University Experience

my experience at the university has been overall positive and full of learning. The academic environment helped me improve my knowledge, discipline, and confidence. Most of the faculty members are supportive and explain concepts clearly, especially during practical sessions and exams. The campus facilities like the library, classrooms, and labs are useful for daily study. I also learned important life skills such as time management, teamwork, and independent learning. while there is always room for improvement in administration and resources, my journey here has helped shape my academic and personal growth. I am grateful for the exposure and opportunities the university provided.
