The first students at the school that would become known as Fort Hays State University couldn't have envisioned how a prairie dog town would be transferred into a sprawling campus 100 years later. In fact, the first building ever inhabited by the school wasn't even located on the present-day campus.The infirmary at Fort Hays, a former army post that had been abandoned in 1889.

Fort Hays State's cozy, tree-filled campus is located in Hays, Kansas (on I-70, halfway between Kansas City and Denver). FHSU is a welcoming community in the heart of historic Hays, a community that celebrates its frontier roots and its modern sensibility - coffee shops, one-of-a-kind restaurants, shopping, and a vibrant arts scene.
Situated adjacent to Lewis Field Stadium, the Schmidt-Bickle Training Facility was completed in July, 2013. This indoor training facility features a 55-yard, full width, synthetic turf football field with (1) end zone for use by the football program. Also included in the facility is a 5,000 square foot weight training room, four 60-meter long, synthetic surface running lanes, 2,500 square feet of equipment storage, restroom facilities, office space for the facility manager, which doubles as the officials' dressing room, and custodial support space.

I respect Fort Hare�s historic legacy as a cradle of African leadership and intellectual thought, having educated many prominent figures in South African and continental history. However, the recent violent unrest where students set fire to key buildings and caused massive damage is deeply concerning and a serious setback for the institution�s mission and reputation. Given this context, I would only recommend Fort Hare with caution right now.Some lecturers are deeply committed and knowledgeable, especially in humanities and education, and they encourage critical thinking rooted in African perspectives. Campus life can feel vibrant during stable periods.
A dynamic place of learning where different people from different backgrounds share experiences in academics and cultureqp issues. An institution that shaped me to be the professional that I am today.
The campus is situated at a place where it makes it easier to focus, far from the noise. Lecturers and all Uni staff are very helpful and friendly. They help you go through your choices and support you when you have a problem through student counselling services. Great experience.
