Housing services

Living on campus is one of the most significant experiences students will have at Coastal Carolina University. Traditionally, students spend more time in their residential community than anywhere else on campus. In their new homes they are challenged and educated by the cultural, diverse and intellectual exchanges that surround them daily.

Library services

The Kimbel Library and Bryan Information Commons serve as a vibrant, student-centered intellectual gathering place offering portals to information and ideas that enhance learning and research for a successful, engaging and diverse community of learners.

Campus life

TEAL Nation is the collective notion of excellence, integrity and tradition that reflects who we are as individuals and a community. Coastal Carolina University is an exciting, ever-changing place in which students can learn, grow, socialize and become part of something bigger.

Sports facilities

Our students fill the baseball stands at Spring Brooks Stadium, the home of the 2016 NCAA College World Series champions, pack Brooks Stadium to watch football, and visit the HTC Center to catch a basketball or volleyball game. Our “Chantourage” supports all 19 NCAA Division I teams, which also includes soccer, tennis and lacrosse. And for students who want to get in on the athletic action, there are dozens of intramural and club sports – from rugby to field hockey to surfing. Coastal even has its own rock climbing wall and a disc golf course.

Student clubs

With more than 190 student clubs and organizations to join, there is no shortage of ways for students to get involved on campus in areas that interest them most. The Office of Student Life is the gateway for involvement opportunities, leadership development and exciting entertainment. Intercultural and Inclusion Student Services gives students ways to embrace and share what makes them unique, because while our students are all a part of Teal Nation, they are all also unique individuals who hail from almost every state across the U.S. and from several countries around the world.

Accreditation

The E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration is accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and the Spadoni College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is approved by the South Carolina Department of Education.

Excellent School for Affordable Cost

I'm really enjoying my time at the College of Coastal Georgia. They are part of the University System of Georgia and offer a rigorous and diverse curriculum. They also over several sports teams and clubs for students to join. The college is relatively small but growing exponentially. Because they are up and coming they have access to all of the latest and greatest resources. The classes are small enough to guarantee ample one on one time with your professer, and the college is very affordable. I feel as though I am gaining the advantages of a larger well known university for a fraction of the price. I initially thought I would probably transfer for my major, but I am currently planning to stay with CCGA.

OCC strong academics, weak DSPS

OCC is a wonderful community college. The campus is extremely walkable and flat. It looks much more spread out on a map than it actually is. There are several brand-new buildings, like classrooms and the student union, with more currently under construction. Most of the professors are phenomenal. Some are just okay, and a few aren't the best in terms of personality or teaching style. The campus is also fairly diverse in terms of race and ethnicity, gender, and age. That said, their disability student services (DSPS) could use significant improvement. The counselor I met when I first enrolled became my assigned DSPS counselor, and the office made it nearly impossible to schedule with anyone else. Unfortunately, that counselor was not helpful. She didn't fully explain the services available and only offered accommodations she chose, without informing me of everything I qualified for. I only discovered some available services this semester, and I'm about to graduate. Even when I finally met with another counselor, it was still a challenge. I've also taken a few courses at Golden West College (GWC), and I found their DSPS program to be significantly better. On a more positive note, OCC's transfer counselors are amazing. They are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. If you're planning to transfer to a four-year university, I highly recommend working specifically with a transfer counselor, as they are much better equipped to guide you through both graduation requirements and transfer planning.
