History

California State University, Fresno was founded as Fresno State Normal School in 1911, became a teacher's college in 1921, and has offered advanced degrees since 1949. The university's popular nickname is "Fresno State." Our mascot is the Bulldog.

Education

Research

Research and Sponsored Programs provides leadership and professional assistance to faculty, students and staff in pursuit of research and contract activities that extend Fresno State's goals and advance its mission in the following ways: Fosters faculty grants and contracts expertise; Identifies and facilitates contact with funding sources; Assists in budget and proposal development; Provides direct support for faculty research; Provides strategic student research support.

Career

The Career Development Center extends the university mission in boldly educating and empowering Fresno State students for success. A variety of comprehensive services are offered to students, alums, employers, and our campus and community partners including career planning and development, employer engagement, experiential education, on-campus employment and money management literacy.

Student services

The Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management supports students' basic needs and supports students in the classroom. Our mission is to boldly educate and empower students for success. 

Housing services

Experience living in a community of students who share the common goal of education. Meet a diverse group of residents, the majority of which are new to the Fresno area. Approximately 650 men and women are assigned to coed community style halls. Double occupancy rooms are located along a shared hallway in a traditional residence hall (limited singles available; no triples available). There are gender designated common bathrooms with private dressing/shower rooms on each wing.

Library services

The Henry Madden Library, along with the Graduate Net Initiative, is dedicated to supporting Graduate Students and their faculty. Each graduate program has its own subject librarian who is available in person, online through email, ZOOM, or other chat services. Other valuable services include: Research guides, specialized graduate resources and EndNote workshops. 

ICT services

The role of the Information Security Office is to ensure the university’s data and information assets are appropriately secured while helping to achieve the academic and business goals of the university.

We all have a shared responsibility to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of university’s data and information assets.

Medical services

The Student Health and Counseling Center has a team of physicians, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals available to meet your medical needs. The Student Health and Counseling Center will be an organization that is recognized for its commitment to providing leadership for health services on campus.

Campus life

Fresno State's 388-acre main campus and its 1,011-acre University Farm are located at the northeast edge of Fresno, California, at the foot of the majestic Sierra Nevada mountain range. The surrounding San Joaquin Valley is one of the richest agricultural areas in the world, and Fresno is the fifth largest city in California. The university is within an hour's drive of many mountain and lake resorts and within a three- or four-hour drive of both Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Sports facilities

The purpose of the Club Sports Program is to develop a safe and fun environment that provides athletes with opportunities to have a competitive athletic experience at the collegiate level, develop a lifetime appreciation for sport and physical activity, and represent Fresno State at competitions across the nation.

The Fresno State Club Sports program is home to several National Championships, including the 2011 National Championship Bowling Team. If you are interested in joining a club or want more information, please feel free to email the Club President or contact the office.

Student clubs

The University Student Union, also referred to as the USU, is the central gathering place on campus and the home of the Student Involvement Center.

The programs and services located in the USU are for students to discover a myriad of opportunities to get involved, experience the diversity of our campus, and celebrate the distinction of student leadership at Fresno State.

Fresno State University is fully accredited by the California Board of Education, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education(NCATE).
