Lawrence, like the city of Appleton in which it is situated, owes its origins to the perseverance of frontier ministers and to the philanthropy of wealthy Bostonians. In 1847, the Boston merchant Amos A. Lawrence commissioned Rev. William Harkness Sampson, Rev. Henry Root Colman, and Rev.
Lawrence is a supportive and welcoming academic community of 1,500 intellectually curious, diverse, multi-interested students from nearly every state and 50 countries—all committed to a rigorous and challenging educational experience.
Lawrentians can participate in intensive 10-week summer research projects collaborating with Lawrence faculty members. There are also off-campus opportunities where Lawrence alumni and other friends of Lawrence open their labs to Lawrence students (housing stipend included).

The office of International Student Services (ISS) is devoted to the unique personal and educational goals and needs of the diverse international community at Lawrence University. The office strives to promote awareness, perspectives, and understanding of international cultures to cultivate informed global citizenship.
These hotels are within four miles of the Lawrence campus. Most are located on or just off College Avenue at Hwy. 41.
In addition to offering a Lawrence discount, the Hampton Inn, Cambria Suites, and Ramada accommodate underage students who are traveling without parents, and they typically are able to provide shuttle service to and from campus and the airport with advance notice.

Our main campus in Appleton, Wis. gives you access to community-based learning opportunities and internships and diverse dining and shopping that you'd expect in a larger city, all with the security that comes from living in one of the nation’s safest cities.
Our 441-acre Bjorklunden campus, just two hours northeast of Appleton, rests on the shores of Lake Michigan, providing a serene retreat for exploration, reflection and intensive learning experiences. And our London Centre is nestled in the heart of Bloomsbury, providing a gateway to one of the world’s most exciting global cities.
Extensive athletic facilities are available at Lawrence. In addition to the Banta Bowl, a 3,676-seat football stadium built into a natural ravine and Whiting Field, with its eight-lane perma-track and baseball, softball and soccer fields, Lawrence has two gymnasiums.
Built in 1929 and fully renovated in 1986, Alexander Gym features two regulation-size basketball courts with hardwood floors, three volleyball courts, baseball/softball batting cages, a racquetball court, a weight room and four locker rooms.
