About

History

  • The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. 

Education

  • Our more than 120 undergraduate and graduate programs will let you find the major that fits your goals. Our accomplished faculty will form mentoring relationships with you. 
  • Our programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) offer ideal preparation for success in a broad range of emerging fields.

Research

  • The Division of Research, Innovation and Economic Development at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) promotes, encourages, and provides assistance for research and scholarship and creative activities in all disciplines by the university faculty, staff, and students. 
  • The services cover guidance on all research administration including funding opportunities, proposal development, research compliance and post award administration. 
  • The office also facilitates the transfer of discoveries, creative works, inventions, and processes resulting from research and scholarly activities to the private sector to enhance the quality of life for society.

Career

  • The Recruitment division coordinates and advises on every aspect of the hiring process.
  • Working in close partnership with university hiring officials, Recruitment identifies and attracts potential applicants via social media and networking events to meet the university’s staffing needs.

Services

Student services

  • Student Accessibility Services exists to facilitate students’ equal access to university programs and services, promote student learning and development, foster independence and self-advocacy, and provide leadership to the campus on disability issues.

Housing services

  • Accommodations provided are unique to each individual and are based on the nature of the disability and the resulting functional limitations. 
  • UTRGV is not required to provide a student’s first choice of accommodation as long as the accommodation provided is effective.

Library services

  • Here at the University Library it is important to us that all patrons be able to access the resources they need to.

ICT services

  • Information Technology (IT) at UTRGV provides the IT infrastructure, resources, and services that support and empower our students, faculty and staff to effectively achieve their outcomes in student learning, teaching and research.

Medical services

  • Health Services at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is here to meet the health care needs of our students so they can focus on their studies. 
  • As a UTRGV student you have paid a Medical Service Fee that allows you to be seen at the clinic as often as needed. 
  • The office visits are free of charge as are most educational services.

Student Life

Campus life

  • Living on campus is a significant part of the UTRGV Vaquero experience. The residential program is designed to support student success. 
  • The Department of Housing and Residence Life focuses on academic success, civic and community engagement, social and recreational involvement, healthy relationships, inclusive communities and personal wellness. 

Sports facilities

  • Sport Clubs at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley are student led, student run, and student initiated. 
  • This philosophy puts the control into the hands of students, allowing an opportunity for valuable leadership experience. 
  • Sport Clubs begin as a general student organization and must apply to be part of UREC’s Sport Club program.
