About

History

In August of 1970, students were accepted at what was then called Texas A&I University at Laredo. While initially a "center" under then-Texas A&I University, this was the start of a legacy of higher education for South Texas. The focus then was to address a demand in teacher education and business disciplines.

Education

A Member of The Texas A&M University System, TAMIU provides nearly 7,500 students with a learning environment anchored by the highest quality programs built on a solid academic foundation in the arts and sciences.

Research

The University Research Council (URC) enhances and monitors academic research activities at the University, including research administration, program oversight, and program evaluation.

Career

Confidential career counseling consists of 2-4 sessions on an individual basis for more in-depth career exploration. Assessments are often used to assist in identifying interests, abilities and values – essential in choosing a satisfying major or career. These assessments may include a computer-guided questionnaire, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality inventory, or the Self-Directed Search inventory.
