History

The Huntingdon Normal School was established by a spry young Huntingdon physician, Dr. Andrew B. Brumbaugh, and his two cousins, Henry and John Brumbaugh. Henry provided a second-story room over his local print shop for classes, while John lodged and fed the college's first teacher, Jacob M. Zuck. Andrew was to "provide students and furniture".

Education

  • Programs of Emphasis enable you to create a field of study that interests you
  • Core courses expand your horizons
  • Real-world experiences, such as research, internships, and study abroad, create career momentum
  • Actively engaged faculty are committed to helping you succeed
  • A two-adviser system provides each student with two resources for academic support

Research

With significant experience independently conducting or collaborating on research, Juniata students have a distinct advantage in graduate programs. In fact, many Juniata students now design and conduct their own research projects as part of their coursework.

Career

There's a reason that 96% of our students who graduate do so in four years—and that 96% are employed or in grad school six months after graduation. Juniata offers a distinctive academic experience.

The College makes reasonable accommodations for students with respect to disabilities which do not impose an undue hardship on the College. If a student believes he or she requires a reasonable accommodation or has a question regarding educational services, activities, programs, or facilities that are accessible to or usable by students with disabilities, please contact the Interim Director of Academic Support, Steve Ankney, in Academic Support Services who serves as the point person and advocate for students with disabilities.

Library services

The L.A. Beeghly Library is open 100+ hours a week with an enthusiastic library staff to serve Juniata students, faculty, and community.  The Library offers a large collection of print books, 200,000+ ebooks, and 48,000+ journals, magazines, and newspapers in all formats.  Our library is at the center of the campus intellectually and physically.

ICT services

Juniata’s Campus Technology Services Department will provide the leadership, infrastructure, and support mechanisms to facilitate the use of technology in the following ways:  to enhance scholarship through academic and experiential learning, to support an inclusive and engaged community through communication and collaboration.

Medical services

All full-time students are required to indicate proof of insurance that will provide coverage in the event of an accident. Juniata College students are automatically covered under the Student Health Insurance Plan. The cost of the Student Health Insurance Plan is $1,616 annually for  undergraduate students and $2,207 annually for graduate students.  This charge will appear on each student's bill.

Campus life

Take it in—all of it. Choose new experiences. Dare to challenge your own perspectives. Join in the fun, the traditions, and, at times, the sheer silliness that brings people together and balances the serious work of study. Think about the memories, the possibilities, the friendships, the unexpected outcomes. What happens here outside of the classroom enriches your education. Learning is learning. Everything you do at Juniata ultimately helps shape the authentic you.

Sports facilities

With the completion of the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center (1983), Juniata College students were provided with the most modern of recreational facilities. A hub for out-of-classroom activity, the Kennedy Center contains two gymnasiums; a six-lane, 25-meter swimming pool; a wrestling room; racquetball/handball courts; sauna facilities; universal weight lifting equipment; 11 nautilus machines; and three expanded locker rooms.

Student clubs

Juniata has dozens of clubs and organizations on campus that give students the opportunity to develop different skills, support various causes, grow as a person, make friends and/or just have fun!

Accreditation

The Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and has achieved the highest state rating as a Keystone STAR 4 Center (Keystone STARS). The Center is also licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. Our high-quality early childhood program provides a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children.
