University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center

History

Under the direction of the College of Medicine, a two-year School of Nursing was organized in 1911. In 1913, the school graduated its first class and became a three-year diploma program. Future physicians and nurses trained primarily in the old Rolater Home and Hospital in Oklahoma City until 1919, when University Hospital was built.

Education

The mission of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, as a comprehensive academic health center, is to educate students at the professional, graduate, and undergraduate levels to become highly qualified health services practitioners, educators, and research scientists; to conduct research and creative activities for the advancement of knowledge through teaching and development of skills; and to provide continuing education, public service, and clinical care of exemplary quality.

Research

We are pleased to announce the completion of the OUHSC five-year Research Strategic Plan(RSP). This plan represents 2 years of tremendous effort, commitment, and collaboration involving input of greater than 150 stakeholders representing leadership, faculty, staff, and students from across OUHSC.  We want to express our deepest appreciation and thank everyone for all of their hard work that led to the development of this document.
