History

Founded in 1873, Southeast Missouri State University has a proud history of excellence in education. First founded as a teacher’s college, the institution has grown into a comprehensive University with more than 150 academic programs in five colleges. It was originally the primary structure on the campus, containing classrooms, a gymnasium and the library.

Education

In addition to offering more than 145 undergraduate majors, 100 minors, and more than 75 graduate programs, Southeast continues to focus on staying ahead of changing market demands. Using technology to find new ways to feed the world is a top priority in agriculture, and industry professionals turn to our cybersecurity team to help defend against the latest cyber threats.

Research

The mission of the Office is to provide institutional research and reporting services to clients both within and external to the University. These services support planning, accountability and continuous improvement processes throughout.

Career

With a strong commitment to development and individual responsibility, the Office of Career Services is dedicated to assisting students and alumni in cultivating the life-long skills needed to successfully navigate their educational and career journeys.

Career Services assists students & alumni with major and career exploration, internship strategizing, career planning, and graduate school preparation. Throughout the academic year, we offer a variety of career workshops and events as well as career fairs designed to connect students with prospective employers.

Student services

The Office of Student Conduct (OSC) administers the Statement of Student Rights and Code of Student Conduct, which outlines the rights and responsibilities of the student body at Southeast. The OSC collaborates with a number of offices within the division of Enrollment Management & Student Success as well as the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Athletics, academic departments, and other campus units to support students in their educational efforts.

Housing services

What will you do while living on campus? Eat fresh food at every meal, save time walking to class, and find your flock in the heart of the action—but that’s not all. You’ll form better relationships with faculty, get more involved in campus life, earn better grades, and increase your likelihood to graduate on time. Whatever you do here, you won’t do it alone.

Library services

Kent Library was dedicated in 1939 and greatly expanded and re-dedicated to serve a larger student body in a more modern age in 1968. Recently, the library once again embraced the emerging needs of new generations of students through the development of The Information Commons at Kent Library.

ICT services

The Information Technology open computer labs are distributed across the main campus, three regional campuses, and River campus. These facilities are connected through network services and are dedicated to academic endeavors. The labs are open to all students, faculty, and staff with valid Southeast identification. 

Medical services

Through a partnership with SoutheastHEALTH, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Nurse Practitioners provide health treatment including physical exams, laboratory services, immunizations and allergy shots, medical procedures, prescription services, special equipment needs (ice packs/crutches).

Campus life

River Campus exquisitely joins the rich history of Cape Girardeau with modern facilities that serve students of Southeast Missouri State University and the area. Visitors are welcome to appreciate wonderful views of the Mississippi, tour the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum or buy tickets for the next university-produced performance, concert or performance, by artists from around the globe.

Sports facilities

Southeast Missouri State University is committed to promoting a holistic healthy environment for students. Students are an integral part of the campus community and our Student Wellness program provides the necessary tools to help steer you in the right direction. We offer peer education on a variety of health topics, fitness and wellness incentive programs, special wellness events and other on-campus resources to help build a healthy lifestyle during your time at Southeast.

The Will To Do.

I personally love this university. All the professors and staff are so involved with every students learning and are so supportive. At Southeast they offer so many major and minor programs and even have an online program. There are hands on learning experiences to really release your potential.

To have a successful study experience, it is crucial to have good time management skills, stay organized, set achievable goals, and seek help when needed. Joining study groups, attending office hours, and networking with classmates can also enhance the learning experience.
