Find More PhDs
Hampden-Sydney College has unique bragging rights - it is the tenth oldest institution of higher learning in the United States (1775), and is the oldest of the country's few remaining private colleges that specializes in educating and developing young men.

History

History is alive at H-SC. In continuous operation since November 10, 1775, Hampden-Sydney is the tenth oldest college in the United States. Here, the past meets the present as we prepare students for not just successful careers, but successful lives in the 21st century.

Education

Hampden-Sydney College excels in teaching exceptional young men in the way they learn best: in small classes with one-on-one instruction and by doing rather than watching. Immersed in the liberal arts, every student is taught to reason effectively, think critically, and write persuasively.

For more than 240 years, Hampden-Sydney's leadership has carried out its mission to "form good men and good citizens in an atmosphere of sound learning."

Research

Work side by side with professors on research projects both inside the classroom and out in the field, tackling real problems and gaining invaluable, practical experience.

Career

Considered a best value college for its return on investment, H-SC ranks among the top 10 colleges for career preparation according to The Princeton Review and The Wall Street Journal.  An H-SC alumnus will earn more than graduates from other institutions, and he'll do it with support from the 2nd best alumni network in the nation.

Your learning opportunities extend well beyond the classroom and even beyond the Hill, and may include internships, student research, study abroad, cooperative programs, or the honors program.
