Formation years
- 1960 - BC Vocational School opens at Willingdon and Canada Way in Burnaby
- 1961 - Plans are announced to establish BCIT
- 1962 - First Principal of BCIT appointed
- 1964 - First students are on campus: 498 of them in Engineering, Health and Business
- 1966 - BCIT celebrates its first graduates
- 1975 - Number of students is now 3,200

Housing services
- Maquinna Residence offers comfortable and convenient accommodations, for BCIT full-time students.
- Just a short walk to class, the residence accommodates 333 residents and is ideally located on the Burnaby campus, adjacent to the sports field and recreation facilities.

- The Library aims to strengthen learning, teaching, and research at BCIT through innovative and effective resources, partnerships and services.
ICT services
- The IT Services department is responsible for providing technology services and support programs that address the advanced technology and essential computing and communications needs of learners, faculty, and staff.

Campus life
The BCIT Burnaby Campus is located just off the Trans-Canada Highway at the corner of Willingdon Avenue and Canada Way. The entire Burnaby Campus is split up into four quadrants:
- NorthWest (NW) Quadrant
- NorthEast (NE) Quadrant
- SouthWest (SW) Quadrant
- SouthEast (SE) Quadrant
Each buildings name, in its respected quadrant, will always start with two letters (NW, NE, SW, or SE) and then a number.
Each parking lot at the Burnaby Campus is a paid parking lot which is in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Tennis court, outdoor basketball court, frisbee, golf, and track are available for use when not booked by a group. They are located on the south side of building SE16.
No individual reservations are taken for usage of the outdoor facilities. Group bookings for specific access to the outdoor facilities is required.
Student clubs
- The British Columbia Institute of Technology Student Association (BCITSA or ‘SA’) is a non-profit student services and advocacy organization at BCIT with a mandate to enhance student life.
- Our programs and services are designed to benefit and support all 48,500+ full-time and part-time students across BCIT’s five campuses.
- The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) is a leading accreditation association for business education.
- The association embraces the virtues of teaching excellence and emphasizes to students that it is essential to learn how to learn.
- The ACBSP accredits business, accounting, and business-related programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master, and doctorate degree levels worldwide.
