East Stroudsburg Normal School opened its doors on September 4, 1893. A faculty of fifteen greeted a group of 320 students who had entered the two-year programs in Elementary and Science Education. Although the Normal School was originally privately owned, ownership was transferred to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1920, and the name was changed to East Stroudsburg State Normal School.
East Stroudsburg University is a comprehensive university in northeastern Pennsylvania offering 58 undergraduate programs, 21 master's programs and 2 doctoral programs.
ESU offers undergraduate, graduate, and faculty research opportunities and a diverse array of creative activities that the campus community members originate, appreciate, and celebrate.
Beyond the classroom, in every discipline, many students at ESU enhance their educational experience by participating in student-initiated research or creative activity and/or by assisting faculty in their research and creative projects.

We offer nine residential facilities on campus. Our on campus, we offer traditional housing, suite-style housing, and apartments, in a variety of single-gender and co-ed options. The University Apartments and University Ridge are reserved for upper-class students. Within our residence hall structure we offer special interest living communities.
Services
Kemp Library maintains a collection of approximately 392,048 print items, including books, periodicals, and government documents. The library provides 24/7 access to 110 online databases that contain more than 2.7 million full text documents. The library also maintains a collection of around 1,000 films on DVD and a small collection of leisure reading titles.
ESU Health and Wellness services support the academic mission by engaging students, faculty, and staff in leading healthier lives and building supportive and sustainable environments, so that health can advance the capacity to learn and work. The Office of Health and Wellness offers a variety of health education, prevention, and support services.
The University has 57 buildings located on 258 acres in the East Stroudsburg Borough and in Smithfield Township which include academic facilities, 7 residence halls (housing over 2500 students), a 1,000-seat dining hall, a student center and a recreation center. The Student Activity Association, Inc., owns Stony Acres, a 119-acre off-campus student recreation area near Marshalls Creek, that includes a lodge and a small lake.
The Mattioli Rec Center is the place where you can run, play tennis, lift weights, have fun, meet new people, take fitness classes, compete, or shoot hoops.
The facility offers you activity space to experience fitness and recreation in a safe, state of the art building.

As an international students I know my experience is different and I can even say unique. My university has a vast cultural diversity and lots of clubs and activities that help find community or build a safe space. My professors to this day have all being gentle and professional
East Stroudsburg University has its hidden gems, and that very much relies on you to find! The campus isn't anything stellar however, the professor and staff are top notch! Athletics are extremely competitive and every year ESU finds ways to be overall a better experience. If you are looking for a smaller university with a great tight community, you will find just that!
I am a previous student in mathematics and informatic, which have made many jobs especially teacher, I optained my bachelor in pure mathematics in 2022 and tried a master's degree in fundamental mathematics, but I understood that I am not avaible to be a mathematics researcher , but i prefere applied mathematics.i found this opportunitie to make an intership in europe, i am motivate and determinate to have this rich experience and taking the best of it for professional and human experience.
