About

History

Saint John Baptist de La Salle (1651-1719) founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and is the patron saint of Christian teachers. John Baptist de La Salle was a pioneer in founding training colleges for teachers, reform schools for delinquents, technical schools, and secondary schools for modern languages, arts, and sciences.

Education

Everyone takes the Collegiate Seminar, a four-semester series of intimate classes that covers major works of Western civilization, starting with Homer and Aristotle and passing through about 2,700 years of philosophy, history, literature, art, and science. The course asks big questions: What is goodness? What is death? Does evil have to exist? Students learn to read carefully, draw sharp conclusions, listen to other people, and disagree civilly.

Research

The mission of the Office of Research is to promote, support, and recognize research, scholarship, and creative activity at Saint Mary’s College. The office facilitates sponsored funding for Saint Mary’s research and programs and fosters an internal environment that promotes research activities.

Career

At CPDS our overarching goal is to provide resources for every student to plan for and create a meaningful professional life.
