A Baker University education is rooted in the liberal arts, a tradition that builds on historical strengths while advancing emerging ideas and fields of study.

History

Founded in 1858 as the first university in Kansas, Baker is an institution with a storied past. While standing in the center of our beautiful campus in Baldwin City, a person can do a 360-degree turn and see three buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Lady Margaret Thatcher dedicated our Osborne Chapel, which was moved brick by brick from Sproxton, England.

Education

At each of our four schools—College of Arts and Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Professional and Graduate Studies, and School of Education—faculty provide creative learning experiences while challenging students to analyze issues with depth and clarity.

Student services

The Baker University Office of Student Affairs is here to help you as you grow academically, personally and socially.

From the day you arrive on campus to the day you graduate, the dean of students and the associate dean of students are your advocates and will provide assistance for challenges and concerns that come your way. We can assist you in all aspects of a your campus life. We are on the second floor of the Long Student Center.

Housing services

Living on campus completes your college experience by allowing you to connect with friends, get involved, and interact with faculty and staff. All of our campus housing is suite-style—no communal restrooms here.

And you’ll be living very close to campus, never more than a five-minute walk to any of the academic buildings.

ICT services

Information technology and computer use at Baker University are governed by a number of policies, federal and state laws, and general guidelines. Students, faculty and staff at Baker are responsible for understanding their responsibilities in the use of information technology. Several of the policies below are in PDF format.

Medical services

The allied health care industry’s significant growth in recent years has coincided with students’ rising interest in related professions, such as cardiac rehabilitation, dietetics, chiropractics, and physical and occupational therapy.

Campus life

More than 98 percent of Baker students on the Baldwin City campus receive financial aid in the form of scholarships and grants that total thousands of dollars. We strive to provide financial assistance to as many students as possible. Early action is important. Applications will be accepted until funds are exhausted.

Sports facilities

The Mabee Fitness Center and Shore Weight Room are located on the Baldwin City campus in Mabee Memorial Hall, ground floor. Access to the center is from the east side of the building.

The weight room and fitness center are available to Baker University students, faculty, and staff. Guests are not allowed.

Student clubs

Not all of your education takes place in the classroom: 93% of Baker students are involved in clubs, athletics, internships, study abroad, and student government. You’ll have no trouble finding your place, making friends, and creating a memorable college experience.

Accreditation

Baker University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission

Students Heard But Unhelped

I don't feel I am supported as a student at the school. They just recently have offered counseling services for students but aside from that it feels like any time we have advocated for ourselves or our needs we are heard but nothing changes or is fixed.

New Campus, But Unstable Teaching

While the new campus is an impressive investment, the lack of adequate parking has created inconvenience for students, especially since the garage arrangement wasn't confirmed until the semester began. My cohort has also faced considerable challenges, such as instability in the teaching staff. Many original instructors left, leaving the program with new professors who seem uncertain about the curriculum and effective teaching methods. Additionally, it's concerning that the school doesn't appear to prioritize students physical and mental well-being, which is a critical aspect of the learning experience.
