History
Midway University, located in Midway, Kentucky, is a private, non-profit liberal arts college, founded in 1847 by Dr. Lewis L. Pinkerton, as the first school in the United States to serve orphaned and disadvantaged women. Through the years the school evolved and became Pinkerton High School, Midway Junior College, Midway College and on July 1, 2015, Midway University.
Education
Our Undergraduate programs are delivered on our main campus in Midway, Kentucky and follow the traditional 16 week semester.
Our Evening and Online undergraduate programs are designed in an accelerated format with 8 week courses that start 5 times throughout the year. Evening accelerated courses meet 1 night a week for 8 weeks. Many of our degrees can actually be completed 100% online which allows working adults the most flexibility for their schedules.
Our Graduate School programs offer students the opportunity to earn an advanced degree with some evening and online coursework. Many programs in our graduate school are offered completely online.Career

Student services
The Student Success Center is your go-to for Academic Support and Career Services resources. We guide students in recognizing their academic capabilities and career potential. Our goal is to ignite and activate a student’s self-discovery as they work to achieve academic success and embark on their journey to career readiness or graduate school preparation.
Housing services
There are three residence halls available to students for campus housing- Buster Hall, Belle Wisdom, and Pinkerton Hall. In order to support you, we have Resident Assistants who live on every floor. These undergraduate Midway Leaders are dedicated to connecting you to other residents and to campus through engaging and creative activities. A professional Resident Director also lives in each building and works to get to know each student through building events and individual conversations. Your Resident Assistant and Resident Director are here for you.
Library services
The Little Memorial Library at Midway University supports and enhances the activities of the college by providing resources, services and instruction that meet the educational and informational needs of students, faculty and staff.
Campus life
Our beautiful campus is located on 200 acres in Midway, Kentucky in Woodford County and is a working horse farm. Just fifteen minutes from Lexington, our campus is in the center of Kentucky’s internationally renowned horse country and Is surround by some of the top Thoroughbred farms in the world.
Sports facilities
Midway University fields 15 athletic teams and 2 equine riding teams. Team sports include archery, basketball, baseball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.
Student clubs
The following clubs and organizations are recognized by the Midway University Student Government Association (SGA) and are eligible for SGA funding.
Midway University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, baccalaureate, and master degrees.
