About

History

Phi Beta Kappa is recognized as not only the oldest but also the most prestigious honor society in the United States. For more than 200 years, election to Phi Beta Kappa has been a recognition of intellectual capacities well employed, especially in the acquiring of an education in the liberal arts and sciences.

Education

A major at Millsaps is a specialized course of study required of all students, offering the opportunity to focus in depth on a particular discipline. It usually consists of 32–48 hours of course work specified by a particular department, in addition to the prescribed work for the degree. A student must have a minimum of 16 semester hours in a department in order to qualify for a minor.

Research

Create a distinctive leadership development program - "Across the Street and Around the Globe: Partnerships and Influence at Millsaps College," - to capitalize on our experience and assets, to differentiate Millsaps from other colleges, and to allow our students and the college to more actively and purposefully engage with and influence our local community as well as the communities we touch around the globe, offering every student an opportunity to participate in intercultural experiences both internationally and locally.

Career

Millsaps College is an equal opportunity employer. It is the policy of Millsaps College to offer equal educational and employment opportunities to all persons without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or veteran status.

Services

Student services

The mission of the Office of Records at Millsaps College is to assist with the administration of academic programs, and to serve as a liaison with the faculty and as a service office for students. The Office of Records coordinates academic activities including but not limited to course registration, creation, and maintenance; protection of academic records; certification of students for continued enrollment and for graduation; and official transcripts.

Housing services

The Department of Student Life works to ensure a smooth adjustment to life on campus and offer assistance in helping you find your fit to achieve your life goals. Students living on campus have access to professional counseling services, the Wesson Health Center, College Chaplain, and others who can offer a helping hand when you need it. In addition, many of Millsaps' faculty and staff participate in programs that promote a healthy, diverse campus community.

Library services

Wilson family, consists of a 1955 renovation of the original 1926 Carnegie Library and a 1971 addition, a portion of a multi-purpose building.  It contains approximately 35,000 square feet with a variety of comfortable study areas, including group project rooms, music and media rooms, and a variety of meeting rooms.

Student Life

Campus life

Enhance and maintain a campus that is beautiful, environmentally sustainable, supports the needs of our students, faculty and staff, and is economically viable and accessible to all members of the community. Reclaim the northeast corner of campus so that it clearly establishes Millsaps' presence. Identify and prioritize building and renovation of needed spaces.

Sports facilities

The Maurice H. Hall Activities Center, a gym and fitness center available for campus-wide use, was constructed in 2000. At 63,330 square feet, the building contains a fitness center with a basketball PAC interior court, a cardio theater and aerobics room, a full array of fitness and weight training equipment, an outdoor pool and three racquetball/handball courts.
