Founded in 1950 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), Marymount University is an independent, coeducational Catholic university offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in a wide range of disciplines.

History

Marymount University, the first Catholic college to be established in Virginia, was founded in 1950. Through the years, it has grown from a two-year college for women into a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic university serving approximately 3,600 undergraduate and graduate students.

Marymount University is excited to offer unlimited access to ProQuest’s Pivot database to help faculty, staff, and students find funding opportunities, as well as possible collaborators for research and scholarly endeavors. Student services

The Division of Student Affairs assists students as they navigate life at Marymount. The staff can work with students who will be missing class due to illness or personal emergencies, discuss options for challenging academic and social situations, and refer students to available resources on campus.

Housing services

Marymount's residential life and housing is committed to providing successful learning communities outside the classroom. In order to provide excellent service, Marymount has a fully trained professional staff that coexists with a committed student staff to help promote and build relationships in the residential community. The staff members include Resident Assistants (RA's), Resident Hall Coordinators (RHC's), Area Coordinators (AC's) and the Assistant Director of Residents Education. These staff members operate through the Office of Campus and Residential Services and work tirelessly to benefit the residential campus community.  

Library services

The Emerson G. Reinsch Library is located on the 26th Street side of Marymount's main campus. The library supports the University's programs with a collection of books, electronic resources, periodicals, special collections, audiovisual materials, reserves, and reference assistance. Comprised of four floors, the library is equipped with more than 80 computers.

Medical services

The Student Health Center (SHC) provides diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries. We provide many of the routine services offered at primary healthcare offices including allergy injections, laboratory and radiology requisitions, and specialist referrals.

Campus life

The Office of Campus and Residential Services is responsible for providing residential university services that empower students, staff, and faculty to value and develop lifelong learning, leadership, and global citizenship.Marymount is committed to helping you establish a home away from home in a residential community that is comfortable, engaging, and built to complement your academic life. 

Sports facilities

Improve and maintain your personal fitness!  The main Fitness Center is conveniently located on the lower level of the Rose Bente Lee Center.  This location features a wide array of equipment. The second location is in the Ostapenko building on level G4 with newer equipment and personal TV’s on the exercise bikes. You can join in a group fitness workout or strike out on your own at a time that suits your schedule. Both centers are easily accessible for members of the Marymount community

Student clubs

Marymount University encourages students to take an active role in student organizations and supports a variety of clubs and organizations to meet the needs and interests of its students. There are opportunities to participate in student government; student publications; and clubs that plan entertainment, social, volunteer, and educational activities.

Marymount University is accredited by the Southern Associations of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees.
