Coppin State University is a model urban, residential liberal arts university located in the northwest section of the City of Baltimore that provides academic programs in the arts and sciences, teacher education, nursing, graduate studies, and continuing education.

History

Coppin was founded in 1900 at what was then called Colored High School (later named Douglass High School) on Pennsylvania Avenue by the Baltimore City School Board who initiated a one-year training course for the preparation of African-American elementary school teachers.

Education

Coppin offers 53 majors and nine graduate-degree programs. A fully accredited institution, Coppin serves Baltimore residents as well as students from around the world, with flexible course schedules that include convenient day, evening, and weekend classes and distance learning courses.

Student services

The Office of Student Activities and Leadership is a student-centered office located on the first floor of the J. Millard Tawes Center. We are an office that enhances and compliments the academic experience for the CSU student body through an extensive array of cultural, education, recreation, social, special CSU traditions and leadership programs. By offering these programs and services, we create an environment for individuals to interact and learn from one another. This office also works to help improve upon students social life, gain self-confidence, acquire leadership skills and learn how to function as a member and/or leader of a group or a team.

Housing services

On campus living will provide you with a world of excitement and convenience. Here at Coppin State we focus on the details of comfortable living so that you can focus on your academic success. We'll provide you with a room to personalize, hot food, and pay the utilities.

Our Housing Program will continue to support the educational mission of the University by promoting the development of the whole person. The primary goal of Housing centers on the safety and well being of the students and the efficiency of the residence system. It is designed to support educational and personal experiences outside of the classroom, which has being shown to enhance the overall college learning experience.

Library services

Parlett L. Moore Library houses over 100,000 items in its collection and houses smart classrooms/labs, open computer labs and meeting rooms.

ICT services

The mission of Information Technology Division is to provide the highest quality technology-based services, and support the University meet its strategic goals and objectives as it applies to teaching, learning, management and community outreach.

Medical services

The Coppin State University College of Health Professions Helene Fuld School of Nursing Coppin Clinic at St. Frances, a nurse-managed clinic located on St. Frances campus, is a primary care facility which is operated by the Helene Fuld School of Nursing. The Center provides readily accessible healthcare to St. Frances administration, faculty, students, staff and residents of the neighborhood.

Sports facilities

All fitness programs are open to CSU students, faculty and staff. CSU Workout (group exercise) includes styles such as Eagle Cycling (CSU's form of spinning), cardioboxing, muscle conditioning, step (platform), yoga, mat pilates, water jogging and basic aerobics. Get out of the classroom and into recreation and wellness. Coppin maintains a state of the art recreation center, also known as the PEC.

I would 100% recommend this institution

Great experience and a wonderful campus life . What could I ask for more? Teaching staff is excellent and brilliant . It was more than I could ask for. This should be the example of an educational institution. I am proud to be a part of such esteemed institution.
