History
Soka University has a proud heritage. Soka education has its origins in the work of Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, a Japanese educator and Buddhist leader. During World War II, Makiguchi was arrested by Japanese military authorities for his opposition to the war and for his defense of religious freedom. He died in prison in 1944.
Education

The arts are a pathway to creating awareness of ourselves, our community and the world around us. By providing outreach programs for school-aged youth, we can enhance the existing educational curriculum and promote creative learning for all.

Student services
The Office of Student Accounts manages and accepts payments for the student financial accounts, including tuition payment plans, and all other fees due to the university. We strive to provide efficient, timely and personalized service for students and/or parents to comfortably manage their financial matters.
Housing services
The residence halls are a place for students to live in diverse community while furthering their academic learning.
Soka has a four-year live-on requirement for students and offers eight residence halls where students are housed according to their classification (first year halls, second year halls, etc.). Soka provides housing only for currently enrolled students; family housing is not available on-campus. Each semester, students have the opportunity to petition to live off-campus.
Library services
All SUA students, faculty, and staff can take advantage of the library’s reference services, which include personalized research sessions.
ICT services
Internet access is available to all students and while on campus. While there are no limits on the use of available 4.5 megs of internet bandwidth, certain services are guaranteed to have a minimum performance level and security measures are in place to ensure safety and privacy.
Medical services
Health Services provides, creates and maintains an environment of promoting preventative health practices. These services include, but are not limited to, first aid, treatment of acute illnesses, health maintenance and screening. The clinic is staffed by a California licensed medical practitioner from South Coast Medical Group (SCMG). We use the SCMG Urgent Care for after-hour/weekend services.

Sports facilities
SUA has made a staunch commitment to the pursuit of extraordinary student-athletes and providing the requisite facilities to assist in their training and competition. The existing facilities have been designed to accommodate training at the most elite levels, as evidenced as by those who have chosen Soka for their professional athletics training.
