Mississippi University for Women

MUW has always shown an ability to adapt and change with the times. In 1920, shortly before newly enfranchised II & C graduates elected their former president Henry Whitfield Governor of Mississippi, The Industrial Institute and College became Mississippi State College for Women. 

Our students say there's something special about The W. You might think they're talking about our ranking among the top Southern public master's universities or our small class sizes, or our best value ranking in U.S. News & World Report and Washington Monthly. Sure those are important. But what students say gives their education that extra something, is our community - down to earth, welcoming, and intellectually curious. It's what makes them feel at home. 

MUW values research, scholarship, and creativity. While MUW is primarily a teaching institution, the university supports research, scholarship, and creativity to enhance the professional development of faculty and staff in order to better prepare students.
