Founded on the rich educational heritage of the Cherokee Nation, the campuses of Northeastern State University provide its diverse communities with lifelong learning through a broad array of undergraduate, graduate, and professional doctoral degree programs.

History

Back in 1846, Northeastern State University was founded as the Cherokee National Female Seminary. This historic link to the Cherokee Nation and Indian Territory make Northeastern the oldest institution of higher learning in Oklahoma. The original Seminary was built in Park Hill south of Tahlequah and destroyed by fire on Easter Sunday 1887.

Research

The Faculty Research Committee (FRC) seeks to contribute by:

  • encouraging faculty research activity
  • encouraging student involvement in research through participation with faculty in research projects to more fully challenge the student's intellectual capacities
  • encouraging faculty research or scholarly activity that contributes to or expands knowledge in the faculty member's discipline
  • acting in an advocacy role for the faculty's research interest to the administration for purposes of increased funding, acquisition of research tools and resources and recognition of scholarly efforts
  • cooperating with the Office of Grants and Contracts in promoting research and seeking external funding

The National Association of Colleges and Employers defines career readiness as the attainment and demonstration of requisite competencies that broadly prepare college graduates for a successful transition into the workplace.

  • The Northeastern State University Office of Student Financial Services is dedicated to informing and educating you on options regarding federal student aid. 
  • The Office of Research Administration is under the supervision of the Vice President for Administration. We handle all post-award aspects of externally funded programs for all three Northeastern State University campuses.

Library services

Northeastern State University Libraries support the University's mission, vision, values, and strategic goals by anticipating library information, technology, and service needs through continuous assessment; by providing timely access to needed resources and by promoting effective selection and use of information by NSU's diverse communities in support of research, innovation, and learning.

The ITS department at Northeastern State University manages a vast network with over 6500 devices attached to the system.

Medical services

Sick and wellness related appointments are available at the Student Health Center on the Tahlequah Campus and at the NEO Health clinic.

  • Arrive 15 minutes early to be sure you can get checked in and fill out any required paperwork before your scheduled appointment
  • Do not schedule an appointment within 1 hour of another class or engagement, because appointments may take longer than expected

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is an integral part of Northeastern State University's overall educational mission and positively reflects the interests and values of the institution's students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends. There are several types of organizations that you can be involved in as an NSU student on the Tahlequah and Broken Arrow campuses. With over 80 groups there is something for everyone’s interest. To find out more about our organizations contact the advisor or president. They will be able to tell you when the group meets and how to join.

My university gives development to young people who strive for the best. First and foremost, Olympic gold and help with their sporting careers. Developing new social skills.
