The University of Southern Denmark was established in 1998 through a merger involving Odense University, the Southern Denmark School of Business and Engineering and South Jutland University Centre.On 1 January 2006, Odense University College of Engineering was incorporated into the University of Southern Denmark, establishing the Faculty of Engineering.
Having developed international programmes for over thirty years, the University enjoys a vibrant, multicultural environment and a worldwide network of businesses, institutions and researches. Teaching staff have extensive research expertise, ensuring students receive an education of the highest quality.With international degree programmes across five faculties, the University of Southern Denmark offers many study possibilities. The COMAC Career Research Unit integrates organizational, managerial and communicative perspectives in research on practices and policies of career development, career education, career guidance, HRM and lifelong guidance. Central concepts and theories are: Employability, Transition Trajectories, Career Competences, New Career Theory, Social Justice and Critical Psychology. Researchers associated with the COMAC Career Research Cluster corporate with a range of different organisations such as European Lifelong Guidance Policy Network, NVL, Municipalities in Denmark (KL), Danish Teacher Organisation (DLF) University Career Centers, Enterprises and many more.

Danish universities do not have a tradition for on-campus housing. Most students live in student halls of residences situated some distance from campus. An efficient public transport system also makes it easy to travel between your residence, campus and the city centre.
Besides Eduroam, SDU has an open network named "SDU_Guest". No password is required for this network.
All residents in Denmark are entitled to free emergency treatment, linked to your own personal CPR-number. In case of an emergency, dial 112 to contact the police, the fire brigade or the ambulance. International students living in Denmark for more than three months are covered by the Danish health insurance. It offers free doctor consultations and hospital treatment.
At the multi-campus university you choose which location suits you best. The largest campus is located in Odense, birthplace of world-renowned story-teller Hans Christian Andersen. The remaining four campuses with international students lie in Kolding, Esbjerg, Sønderborg and Slagelse.
