History

The University of Mount Union is the outgrowth of a town meeting held by forward-looking citizens of the village of Mount Union on October 4, 1846. At that time, the people gathered to hear Orville Nelson Hartshorn outline the need for a new institution in the area, where men and women could be educated with equal opportunity and where science would parallel the humanities.

Education

For many years Mount Union has claimed the distinction of being one of the first institutions to have a summer school. Started in 1870, this first summer school was actually a fourth term in the school year. Since that time, summer instruction has been offered each year at the institution.

Research

Atmospheric chemistry research involves the use of laser spectroscopic systems in a cavity ringdown configuration to detect sub-part-per-billion levels of gas phase reactive intermediates.

Career

Career Development's mission is to help students plan and prepare for life after graduation. We accomplish this by providing individual advising appointments and assessments, hosting recruiting and networking events, electronically posting opportunities through our career management system, coordinating mock interviews, and making formal presentations to groups (class visits, information sessions, club meetings, preview, and orientation, etc.).

Medical services

The University health center is home to the University’s counseling services where students can receive short-term counseling in-house or they can be linked with a counselor in the Alliance are for something more long-term.

Campus life

Every college student hopes to enjoy a positive experience living within the campus community. Life in the residence halls is rich with opportunities for interpersonal relationships and personal growth. Living in a residence hall supplements classroom learning by providing an educational environment which allows students to learn the benefit of living independently and in cooperation with others from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Student clubs

The University of Mount Union is home to nearly 90 student organizations where students can engage with opportunities that relate to their passions, interests, and in many cases, includes their academic course curriculum, too!
