History
University of the Potomac was originally established in 1989 as Potomac Educational Foundation to operate an educational institution of higher learning. In 1991, it became Potomac College, a two-year, upper division degree-completion institution in Rockville, Maryland serving working adults who were currently employed and were seeking to complete their college degrees.

University of the Potomac offers a variety of online degree and certificate programs and location-based learning for students in the Washington, D.C. and Virginia areas. Whether you are in pursuit of your associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree, we offer online programs and specializations, and make the same programs available for those who prefer an on-campus experience.

- University of the Potomac is here to serve you. We offer the convenience of taking a class online, anywhere around the world, or at our Washington, D.C., Falls Church, Virginia campus or Chicago location.
- Our Washington, D.C. campus is conveniently located in the heart of the city’s government and business district, three blocks from the White House. In addition to providing the latest amenities in a modern setting, the campus is located adjacent to the McPherson Square metro station, and just three blocks from Metro Center, making it easy to commute to and from classes.
