History

Prior to the formation of Ontario’s college system in 1967, some trade schools existed in the province. Many of those schools were established in the post-war years primarily to help veterans reintegrate into civilian life. By the late 1950s, tech wings were added to Ontario high schools to assist young people.

Education

We offer more than 100 full-time programs on our campuses in Kingston, Brockville, Cornwall and online, including fast-track delivery, graduate certificates, and four-year degrees.

The Career/College Preparatory Program is designed to provide adult learners with the opportunity to improve academic, technical, personal, and interpersonal skills in preparation for college programs, apprenticeships, and future employment.

Student services

Wellness Services are a part of Student Services, and are designed to provide support to students during their time at St. Lawrence College. Whether one-on-one or in a group, our counsellors provide a wide range of strategies and supports to assist you in doing your best during your time at St. Lawrence College.

Meeting with a friendly and professional counsellor with whatever may be challenging or troubling, can make a difference.

Housing services

All of the residences on our three campuses have fully furnished single or double-occupancy suites and common areas for group study and social activities. There are accessible suites available for students with disabilities. With easy access to public transit, on-site laundry facilities, access to college computer labs, library, dining services, and meal plans, and more, residence has everything you need in one comfortable, secure location.

Library services

  • Current full-time and part-time students and employees have access to our libraries free of charge. Online collections are accessed through slc.me. A valid student or staff card is required to borrow library materials.

ICT services

SLC Information Technology Services main office is located on the Kingston campus, with facilities and support staff distributed at each of the College campuses. We manage the College’s network and communications infrastructure and deliver services that support teaching and learning, including:

Medical services

You must have health insurance to cover the cost of medical care while you are studying with us. To assist you, St. Lawrence College has negotiated the purchase of medical insurance for international students to obtain the most comprehensive coverage at the best cost.

Campus life

Locations:

  • Brockville campus: Our Brockville campus received a major facelift in 2018 and has a brand new library, complete with individual and group study space, a newly renovated cafeteria, student common lounges, and more.
  • Cornwall campus: Our Cornwall campus has a brand new library, new health simulation labs, renovated student common areas and more to make your transition to college life an easy one.
  • Kingston campus: Our Kingston campus has seen significant renovation over the past few years, including a brand new Student Life and Innovation Centre that houses a new gymnasium, fitness centre, pub, and more.

Sports facilities

Whether it be at the Varsity, Extramural, Intramural, or Recreational level, there are a number of opportunities students and get involved with at all three campuses.

Athletics and Recreation receives tremendous support from the College and each Student Government body for its importance to the overall student life experience while attending college. 

Hockey is considered an extramural sport within the OCAA. St. Lawrence College has a men's team on the Brockville and Cornwall campus and a women's team in Cornwall. Just like with varsity sports, students on any campus are able to play on any team.
