History
Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine was established in 1872 (5th year of the Meiji Era) and is one of the oldest medical universities in Japan with a history spanning almost 150 years.
Education
Education is a key part in our goal to bring top level care to our region. Throughout the years the university has adapted to the changes in society and care needs. At present KPUM consists out of a Medical School, Nursing School, Graduate School for Medical Science, and a Graduate School of Nursing for Health Care Sciences.
Research
Research is conducted at all of the university's departments. There are furthermore Research Centers and Research Units for the facilitation and furtherance of cross boundary multidisciplinary research.

Library services
The University Library was established in 1890. It has moved location a couple of times since. The former library, that was finished in 1929, is one of the iconic buildings of our university. The present building was established in 1992 and houses a large collection of books, manuscripts and journals.
