History

Sri Venkateswara University, a premier institution in the area of Teaching and Research in the country, was established by an act of State Universities in 1954. 

Education

The University was started with six departments of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Economics and Philosophy. The University has 4 constituent colleges concerning various conventional and advanced subjects, in order to provide good academic and smooth administrative service to one and all. The University has 54 departments, where in 72 different PG Courses and several Diploma and Certificate courses are being run with a total academic faculty strength of around 400 and 1500 non-teaching and a student strength of 5000, including research scholars.

Housing services

The Sri Venkateswara University College Hostels for Women comprises of I and II Premises with 9 Blocks which accommodate all categories of Women Students admitted into the four constituent Colleges of S.V. University. The Hostel is run on no loss, no profit basis. Sri Venkateswara University College Hostels for Men's , There are ten Blocks viz. A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H,I and S. Janardhan Bhavan which accommodate the students and research scholars of the constituent colleges of Arts, Sciences and commerce, Management & Computer Science.

Library services

The University Library, centrally situated and easily accessible to all the departments on the campus has steadily grown over the years and it has 3,68,315 documents as on 31st March, 2014. The collection of the library includes textbooks, reference books, general books, gift books, reports, back volumes of journals, M.Phil., & Ph.D., dissertations and e-documents.

Medical services

Sri Venkateswara University Health centre was established in1963. It is a service Oriented mini-hospital extending free medical service to the

  • Research Scholars
  • Employees of S.V.University and their dependent family members like parents and unmarried children
  • Retired employees and their spouses and
  • Guested and visitors to the University on various programmes.

Campus life

The University provides several other services and facilities to the students and staff.A hyperbola shaped magnificent Auditorium located centrally in the campus is, in fact, a tourist attraction. With a seating capacity of 2500, it is a fabulous place for conducting conferences, meetings, functions, cultural activities etc.

Sports facilities

  • The Department has all the sophisticated infrastructure facilities for the promotion of Games and Sports activities among the University Youth.
  • One Indoor Flood lit stadium with wooden flooring for Badminton and gymnasium for Physical fitness programme.
  • One Indoor Recreation hall with the facility to play Table Tennis, Chess and Carroms.
  • One exclusive Hockey field, Two Flood lights Tennis courts, Basketball courts with gallories , Two Volleyball courts & Two Ball Badminton courts
  • Two ton power roller, Motorized gross cutter, & Manual rollers for the maintenance of the play fields
