At the time of creation of Pakistan as a sovereign state in 1947, means for higher education and research were negligible. Responding to the impending requirement of higher learning, Pakistan started establishing relevant educational institutions of higher learning and research and thus underwent rapid modernization.
The Karachi University today is the biggest university in the country. It comprises eight faculties with which all the colleges of the city are affiliated. B.S., M.S., M.Phil. and Ph.D. classes under five of these faculties Arts, Science, Pharmacy, Management and Administrative Science and Islamic Learning are conducted on the campus, while under the Faculties of Medicine, law and Education it examines the students admitted to their affiliated colleges. Research programmers leading to M.Phil and Ph.D Degree are offered under all the faculties.
The centre was established on the recommendations of the University of Karachi Syndicate’s meeting held in 1987. The main objective of the center is to motivate, mobilize and facilitate the teachers of the Faculty of Arts to take interest in research and pursue their work to upgrade and equip themselves with the latest developments in their respective fields.

The Library was founded in 1952, when the University of Karachi itself came into being. In 1975 after the death of Prof. Dr. Mahmud Husain then Vice Chancellor and renowned scholar, the library was named as Dr. Mahmud Husain Library in recognition of his services to scholarship, education and for the promotion of librarianship in Pakistan.

I studied BBA at Karachi University, in the Department of Karachi University Business School (KUBS). My experience there was very valuable and helped me learn a lot of important skills. I developed strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork skills, and improved my confidence over time. The program exposed me to different academic and practical business concepts which helped me understand real-world situations better. Working on assignments and group tasks improved my communication and cooperation with others. Although the studies were sometimes challenging, they helped me become more disciplined and focused. Overall, my time at KUBS was a positive learning journey that contributed a lot to my personal and academic growth.

I really loved the hands-on learning approach and how approachable the professors were. The campus facilities are top-notch and modern. One thing that could be improved is providing more career workshops for international students. Overall, it has been an amazing and transformative study journey.
