History
Established in 1965, and located on the former site of the Shingwauk Indian Residential School, Algoma has a special mission to provide cross-cultural learning between Indigenous communities and other communities in Northern Ontario.

Housing services
Whether living in our dormitories or in our townhouses, all of Algoma University’s residence options feature a private, single room. A single room provides you with the best learning and study environment, with countless opportunities to get involved or hang out with fellow residents. Our accessible residences are centrally located on our campus and are within a two-minute walk to classes, computer labs, the George Leach Centre, the Speakeasy, cafeteria, and major transit routes.
ICT services
The Information Technology Services department is responsible for all computing resources on campus. We offer a wide range of support and services to Algoma U students, staff and faculty.
Medical services
Algoma University is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all staff, faculty and administration and to the protection of all members from injury or occupational illness. Campus life
- Our campuses are located in Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins and Brampton. All programs are designed to meet the needs of the surrounding populations.
- While our Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins campus offers a truly northern experience, our Brampton campus provides students with an urban experience.

Student clubs
There’s plenty of student clubs with a wide variety of interests at Algoma U – everything from gaming, social activism, gardening, and photography. You can relax at night in the student centre, The Speakeasy, run for student government, or play an intramural or varsity sport. If you can’t find something that interests you, you can always start your own club! There’s something for everyone!
